При Колумбийском университете (США) 17 декабря 2021 года состоялась Международная научно-богословская онлайн-конференция на тему "Молитва в восточно-христианской традиции". В форуме приняло более 50 ученых и священнослужителей из США, Англии, Греции, Румынии, Италии, Франции, Германии, Украины, Болгарии, Словакии, Израиля и других стран. Конференция состояла из четырех секций: англоязычной, грекоязычной, румыноязычной и славяноязычной.

Организатором конференции выступил Институт исследований восточного христианства Нью-Йоркской объединенной теологической семинарии при Колумбийском университете (США).

Славянская секция конференции, в которой приняли участие 13 ученых из восьми стран, была организована Международным институтом афонского наследия (Украина).

В рамках славянской секции, посвященной восточно-христианской традиции исихазма, со своими докладами выступили: Адальберто Майнарди (Бозе, Италия), Иван Христов (София, Болгария), Анна Брискина-Мюллер (Галле, Германия), прот. Стефан Пружинский (Прешов, Словакия), Сергей Шумило (Киев, Украина), прот. Сергий Тростянский (Нью-Йорк, США), игум. Евтихий Довгань (Нью-Йорк, США), прот. Андрей Ухтомский (Киев, Украина), прот. Виталий Игнатьев (Кропивницкий, Украина), иером. Иосиф (Павлинчук) (Париж, Франция), о. Александр Занемонец (Иерусалим, Израиль), Стефания Украинец (Ровно, Украина), Светлана Гуменюк (Ровно, Украина).

Модератором славянской секции выступил директор Международного института афонского наследия, кандидат исторических наук, доктор теологии Сергей Викторович Шумило. Организация и проведение славянской секции конференции осуществлены в рамках меморандума о сотрудничестве, подписанного между президентом Института исследований восточного христианства Нью-Йоркской объединенной теологической семинарии при Колумбийском университете доктором Конрадом Фишером и директором Международного института афонского наследия доктором Сергем Шумило.

В рамках конференции ученые, богословы и священнослужители из более десяти стран мира рассмотрели различные аспекты молитвенного делания в восточно-христианской традиции. Как отметил один из организаторов Конрад Фишер, «молитва лежит в основе христианской веры и религиозной жизни и представляет собой наш постоянный разговор с Богом. Наша жизнь – это, прежде всего, молитвенная жизнь. Мы не должны отдалять себя от Бога, поскольку это ведет к духовной смерти. Что такое молитва? Как мы молимся? Как мы молимся в эпоху отчаяния? Какие молитвенные традиции (напр., сердечная молитва, духовная молитва, Иисусова молитва, псалмопение и др.) могут помочь нам восстановить духовное зрение и привести разум и сердце к Богу? Какова роль тела в молитве? Чему мы можем научиться из молитв других традиций? Эти и другие вопросы стали предметом рассмотрения нашего международного форума».
