При Колумбійському університеті (США) 17 грудня 2021 року відбулася міжнародна науково-богословська онлайн-конференція на тему "Молитва у східно-християнській традиції". У форумі прийняли участь понад 50 учених та священнослужителів зі США, Англії, Греції, Румунії, Італії, Франції, Німеччини, України, Болгарії, Словаччини, Ізраїлю та інших країн. Конференція складалася з чотирьох секцій: англомовної, грекомовної, румуномовної та слов'яномовної.

Організатором конференції виступив Інститут досліджень східного християнства Нью-Йоркської об'єднаної теологічної семінарії при Колумбійському університеті (США). Слов'янська секція конференції, в якій взяли участь 13 вчених із восьми країн, була організована Міжнародним інститутом афонської спадщини (Україна).

В рамках слов'янської секції, присвяченої східно-християнській традиції ісихазму, зі своїми доповідями виступили Адальберто Майнарді (Бозе, Італія), Іван Христов (Софія, Болгарія), Анна Бріскіна-Мюллер (Галле, Німеччина), прот. Стефан Пружинський (Пряшів, Словаччина), Сергій Шумило (Київ, Україна), прот. Сергій Тростянський (Нью-Йорк, США), ігум. Євтіхій Довгань (Нью-Йорк, США), прот. Андрій Ухтомський (Київ, Україна), прот. Віталій Ігнатьєв (Кропивницький, Україна), ієром. Йосип (Павлинчук) (Париж, Франція), о. Олександр Занемонець (Єрусалим, Ізраїль), Стефанія Українець (Рівне, Україна), Світлана Гуменюк (Рівне, Україна).

Модератором слов'янської секції виступив директор Міжнародного інституту афонської спадщини, кандидат історичних наук, доктор теології Сергій Вікторович Шумило. Організацію та проведення слов'янської секції конференції здійснено в рамках меморандуму про співпрацю, підписаного між президентом Інституту досліджень східного християнства Нью-Йоркської об'єднаної теологічної семінарії при Колумбійському університеті доктором Конрадом Фішером та директором Міжнародного інституту афонської спадщини доктором Сергієм Шумило.

У рамках конференції вчені, богослови та священнослужителі з більш ніж десяти країн світу розглянули різні аспекти молитовного ділання у східно-християнській традиції. Як зазначив один з організаторів форуму доктор Конрад Фішер, «молитва лежить в основі християнської віри та релігійного життя і є нашою постійною розмовою з Богом. Наше життя – це насамперед молитовне життя. Ми не повинні віддалятися від Бога, оскільки це веде до духовної смерті. Що таке молитва? Як ми молимося? Як ми молимося в часи відчаю? Які молитовні традиції (напр., сердечна молитва, духовна молитва, Ісусова молитва, псалмоспіви та ін.) можуть допомогти нам відновити духовний зір і привести розум і серце до Бога? Яка роль тіла у молитві? Чого ми можемо навчитися з молитви інших традицій? Ці та інші питання стали предметом розгляду нашого міжнародного форуму».
